Memorable Manitobans: Henry Krushel (1899-1987)
Born in the Rural Municipality of Stanley on 22 August 1899, son of John Krushel (1869-?) and Bertha Yeske (1872-?), he was raised in the Morden area. Following teacher training, he worked in rural schools across southeastern Manitoba for 41 years, including tenure at Greenland School (1925, Principal), Oswald School (1925-1926), Birkenhead School (1926-1927, 1928-1931), Weidenfeld School (1931-1937), Hochfeld School (1938-1946), Hamburg School (1946-1949), Schanzenfeld School (1949-1954; Principal 1950-1954), Houston South School (1954-1959), Gruenthal School (1959-1960), Rocky School (1960-1967; Principal 1964-1967), and Rock Lake Colony Hutterian School (1969-1970). On 11 September 1926, he married Louise Topnik (?-?) at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Winnipeg and they had three sons, of whom Clarence Krushel (1930) died in infancy. He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 14 December 1987 and was buried in the Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
