Memorable Manitobans: Roger James Hansell (1929-2019)Lawyer. Born at Winnipeg on 25 June 1929, second child of Herbert John Hansell (1892-1967) and Alice Daisy Hansell (1892-1977), he attended Champlain School, Queenston School, Robert H. Smith School, Kelvin High School, University of Manitoba, and the Manitoba Law School, graduating from the latter in 1954. He pursued a military career while completing his university education, holding the rank of Captain in the Army Reserves by the age of 20. He was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1954 and joined the law firm of Aikins, MacAulay, Moffatt, Dickson, Hinch and McGavin (later Aikins, MacAulay & Thorvaldson), practicing until retirement in 2008. In 1960, he married Nora Thorvaldson (?-1997), daughter of Solmundur Thorvaldson, and they had four children. He was a member of the Winnipeg Winter Club, Manitoba Club, and St. Charles Country Club.
