Memorable Manitobans: John Wesley Alexander “Jack” Muirhead (1906-1996)Educator, school inspector. Born in the Bear Creek district on 4 January 1906, son of John Muirhead and Jennie Lobb, he taught in schools around rural Manitoba, including at Virden School (1942-1947) and a Principalship of Hartney School (1948-1950). He was Assistant Principal of Miles MacDonell Collegiate in the early 1950s. In late 1955, he was appointed a Manitoba School Inspector, based at Steinbach, later transferring to Charleswood. On 29 June 1931, he married teacher Isabel Georgina Hoyes (1905-1997) at Winnipeg. They had one son, John Richard Keith Muirhead (1934-2009). He retired in 1972 and moved to Richmond, British Columbia where he died on 30 July 1996. He was buried in the Gladstone Cemetery.
