Memorable Manitobans: William Jonathan Gresham (1903-1978)


Born at Perth, Australia on 7 March 1903, son of Jonathan Gresham and Henrietta Grave, brother of A. B. Gresham, he emigrated to Manitoba in 1910 with his family and was educated at Elkhorn School and St. John’s High School. He served as Principal of Carroll School (1924-1927) and Pine Falls School (1927-1932), later moving to Winnipeg. On 27 July 1927, he married Frances May Dawley in the RM of Oakland. They had three sons, Burton Gresham, Douglas Gresham, and Glenn Gresham. He died at Victoria, British Columbia on 20 August 1978.
