Memorable Manitobans: Benny Zenon Orlins (?-1996)
He grew up in the United States, attended Wayne State University in New York State, and graduated with BSc (1960) and MSc (1965) degrees. His teaching career in Manitoba included service at Glenn School (1945-1946) and Principalships at Eriksdale School (1947-1948), Hodgson School (1949-1950), and Stuartburn School (1950-1952), after which he taught in the Winnipeg School Division at Argyle School (1952-1955) and Lansdowne School (1955-1956). While in Stuartburn, he met Mary Anne Nawolski (?-?) and they were married at Winnipeg on 3 August 1954, with two children to follow. They left Manitoba in September 1956 to teach at Detroit, Michigan and he was awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship from Eastern Michigan University (1963). By 1965, he was teaching at H. H. Wiley School in Utica, Michigan. He moved to Florida by 1970 and taught at West Riviera Elementary School in West Palm Beach. He died at Palm Beach in 1996.
