Memorable Manitobans: Ronald Hector “Ron” Meadmore (1933-2013)

Farmer, athlete.

Born at Culross on 26 December 1933, he attended Webster School (grades 1 to 8), Kelvin High School, and the University of Manitoba (Ag Diploma, 1954). He farmed in southern Manitoba until retirement in 1999. He married Marion Ironquill in 1954 and they had three sons together. He played ten seasons in the Canadian Football League, seven with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football Club and three with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In 1957, as a member of the Blue Bombers, he was inducted into the Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt. He was a member of Grey Cup teams in 1958, 1959 and 1961. He was inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of the 1958 Blue Bombers team. He died at Winnipeg on 3 August 2013.
