Memorable Manitobans: Augustus Searle “Gus” Leach (1939-2021)

Businessman.

Born at Winnipeg in 1939, eldest child of Augustus Searle Leach and Frances Conway Gilman (c1913-1988), he attended Shattuck-St. Mary's High School at Fairbault, Minnesota, graduating in 1956. He then went to Dartmouth College (Hanover, New Hampshire; 1960) and the University of Western Ontario (1962). He worked for 30 years with Federal Industries, after which he was involved in several capital projects around Manitoba. He served as President of the Manitoba Museum (1992-1994), President of the Winnipeg Art Gallery (?-?), a member of the board for the National Art Gallery in Ottawa, and a director of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (20 years). He was a member of the Manitoba Club, St. Charles Country Club, and Royal Lake of the Woods Yacht Club. He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 1 November 2021.
