Memorable Manitobans: Edward Andrew “Ed” Husack (1940-2020)
Born at Fisher Branch on 9 March 1940, son of Mary Malofie (1906-1995) and Henry Husak (1902-1973), he grew up on the family farm then attended Teachers' College, supporting himself by working in the school kitchen and the candy department at Eatons. He taught for two years then held a succession of principalships, including Mapleton School (1965-1967), Mary Duncan Junior High School (1968-1971), Riverside Elementary School in Thompson (1971-1974), Beaverlodge School (1974-1975), Oak Park High School (1976-1988), and Charleswood Junior High School (1988-1998). While working, he took summer school and evening classes to obtain a BA degree in English, MEd in Administration, and a doctorate in Curriculum Development from the University of Nebraska. He died at the St. Boniface Hospital on 28 July 2020.
