Memorable Manitobans: Alfred John Strachan (1915-1978)Horticulturalist. Born in Pope, Manitoba, he was educated at Carman before attending the University of Manitoba, from which he graduated in 1938 with BSc in Agriculture. He subsequently joined the Dominion Department of Agriculture at Brandon, Melita, and Minnedosa. He formed the Strachan Feed Company in 1943. He became a specialist in breeding gladioli, and developed six new varieties. He is a member of the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame.
