Memorable Manitobans: George Owen Owens (1905-1993)Educator. Born on a farm near Cypress River on 30 January 1905, son of Robert Owens and Frances Kelly, he was educated at the Cypress River School then worked for two years in the post office. He then attended the Brandon Normal School and taught at several schools in rural Manitoba, including service as the Principal of Starbuck School (1935-1938). He then completed his education at the University of Manitoba. During the Second World War, he served as a bombing and gunnery instructor in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
