Memorable Manitobans: Laura May Cooke Gall (1912-2004)Educator. Born at Carman on 26 July 1912, daughter of Rose Etta Bush (c1886-?) and William Oliver Young Cooke (c1876-?), she grew up at NE-22-28-10W near Steep Rock. Her teaching career began in 1930, with schools at which she taught including Martin School (?-?) and Queen Elizabeth School (1953-1954). She served as Principal of Dugald School (1956-1958) and Darlingford School (1958-1959), later teaching at Moosehorn School (1970-1971) in her final years in the classroom. She retired in 1974 and moved to British Columbia in 1978. Married to Walter Gall (c1917-1978) by the 1940s, she had four sons and one daughter. She died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 25 January 2004.
