Memorable Manitobans: John Henry “Jack” Doughty (1900-1958)
Born on 28 October 1900, he taught at Plainview School (1920) and Russell School (1928-1931) and served as Principal at Fairfax School (1931-1936), Brookdale School (1936-1941), Griswold School (1941-1944), Snowflake School (1951-1957), Darlingford School (1957-1958), and Franklin School (1958). On 4 April 1923, he married Pearl Edna Ferguson (1903-1974) at Carman. They had a daughter, Bernice Eleanor “Doolly” Doughty (1927-2020, wife of Vince Bates). He was active in sports, particularly curling and baseball, and served as the first Secretary-Treasurer of the Russell Elks Lodge (1927). He died at Franklin on 4 November 1958 and was buried in the Neepawa Riverside Cemetery.
