Memorable Manitobans: William Bernhard Doerksen (c1900-1987)

Educator.

Born in Ukraine, he emigrated to Canada with his brother and sisters in 1924. After studies at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute and the University of Manitoba, he became a teacher and Principal at several Manitoba towns and in Winnipeg. In 1944, he married Aileen Motley. They had no children. He died at Surrey, British Columbia on 27 February 1987 and was buried in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
