Memorable Manitobans: George William Burrell (1857-1941)

Educator.

Born in Ontario on 11 November 1857, he was Principal of Swan Lake School (1912-1916) and Emerson School (1916-1917) and worked at several rural schools across the province, teaching at Bluff Island School (1922-1923), High Plains School (1929-1931), Cameron School, Mary Hill School, and Cardale School. On 24 March 1917, he married Margaret Annie Gertrude Whincup in the Rural Municipality of Thompson. He died at Dominion City on 3 May 1941 and was buried in the Green Ridge Cemetery.
