Memorable Manitobans: Florence Hope McKinnon “Flora” Bowman (1899-1966)

Educator.

Born at Arnaud on 7 January 1899, daughter of Donald McKinnon (1863-?) and Mary McKinnon (1873-?), she took teacher training and, on 26 December 1923, married George Henry Bowman (1891-1953) of Gunton at Winnipeg. They had three children: George Bowman, Jewel Bowman (wife of J. Trawin), and Kathleen Bowman. She taught at East St. Paul School (?-?) and Norris School (1952-1955) and was later Principal of East St. Paul School / Dr. F. W. L. Hamilton School (1964-1965) until retirement in June 1965. Following a lengthy illness, she died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 29 January 1966 and was buried in the Victoria Cemetery.
