Insurance agent, sports builder.
Born at West Summerland, British Columbia on 28 May 1948, son of Laurence Mitchell “Bud” Andrews (1921-2010) and Marion Doreen Wolfe (1929-2009), his family moved to a farm north of Douglas when he was six months old. He attended Douglas School (grades 1-8), Elton Collegiate (grades 9-12, graduating 1965), and Brandon College, receiving an Education degree from the latter. He taught at Deloraine School for two years.
In 1971, he married Heather Stewart and they later had a son and a daughter. After a short period working for Trans Canada Credit at Winnipeg, they took over the Stewart family farm south of Rapid City which remained his home until death. They farmed until 1978 when he started working in general insurance. In 1980, he became a partner in an insurance business then, in 1990, he established Guild Insurance Brokers in Brandon, having the position of Chief Executive Officer. He chaired the United Way campaign in 1984 and was a director of the Brandon Chamber of Commerce (1984-1993).
Active in Manitoba sports, he formed the Brandon Marlins baseball team in 1995 that he coached to four provincial titles between 1999 and 2005. He was the provincial Senior Curling Champmion in 1999 and 2004 and was involved with every major curling event in Brandon. He was President of the Brandon Curling Club (1975-1977) and held several positions with the Manitoba Baseball Association and Manitoba Curling Association. He was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame (2007). He was a member of the Elks, United Commercial Travelers, and Masons.
He died at the Brandon General Hospital on 17 February 2007 and was buried in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. He is commemorated by Andrews Field in Brandon.
