Historic Sites of Manitoba: St. Adolphe School No. 881 (RM of Ritchot)

The St. Adolphe School District was established formally in May 1896 and a one-room schoolhouse operated on a three-acre site within the Parish of Ste. Agathe in the Rural Municipality of Ritchot. The schoolhouse may have changed locations over the decades, with River Lot 616 (1906) and River Lot 612 (1931) also found in some sources in addition to its final location on River Lot 614 (1944). Funding for a new schoolhouse was acquired via a loan from a $1,000 debenture issued in May 1917. This building measured 24 feet wide by 35 feet long. A $2,000 teacherage (18 feet wide by 22 feet long) was added in late 1948, paid for via a $2,000 debenture.

The district was dissolved in May 1961, its catchment being split up between Niverville School No. 315, Dubuc School No. 973, and Ste. Agathe Consolidated School No. 2385, which later became part of the Red River School Division No. 17. The schoolhouse, teacherage, outbuildings, and all contents thereof, were put up for tender in August 1961. Both a collegiate and elementary school within the Seine River School Division would later carry the same school name within the community of St. Adolphe.

Among the teachers of St. Adolphe School were Josephine McDougall (Fall 1896 - Fall 1901, Fall 1905 - Spring 1906, October 1906, Fall 1907, & pt Fall 1908), records unavailable (Spring 1902 - Fall 1904), Elizabeth Desrossiers (Spring 1905), ?
