Historic Sites of Manitoba: Ashland School (170 Ashland Avenue, Winnipeg)

The cornerstone of Ashland School was laid in a ceremony on 2 November 1951, and a one-storey structure was erected at 170 Ashland Avenue in Winnipeg. Its close proximity to Riverview School meant that their respective catchment areas abutted and, when the principalship of Ashland School became vacant in June 1967, the Winnipeg School decided to amalgamate the two schools for administrative purposes, effective September 1967. Ashland School closed in 1982. The building now hosts a Diagnostic Learning Centre of the Winnipeg School Division.
