Henry Lambert Yonker

Physician, soldier.
Born at Vriesland, Michigan on 25 October 1875, he received BA and MA degrees from the Hope College at Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1903, he graduated from the Rush Medical School at the University of Chicago then practiced medicine at Seattle, Washington prior to moving to Winnipeg in 1905 and continuing to work as a physician.
In 1917, he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force and went overseas with the Canadian Army Medical Corps with the rank of Captain. After his military discharge, he returned to Winnipeg and his medical practice.
He and wife Anna Huminalovich (1890-1936) had three children: Zenon Yonker (1915-1943), Helen Martha Yonker (1915-2010, wife of Walter Victor Bohonos), and Lucille Yonker (1920-?, wife of G. F. Myers). The family lived at 397 Burrows Avenue. He served as a trustee for the Winnipeg School Division (1933-1934) and was an unsuccessful Social Credit candidate for the Winnipeg North riding in the 1945 federal general election.
He died at the St. Boniface General Hospital on 26 November 1968 and was buried with his wife in the Elmwood Cemetery.
