Memorable Manitobans: Evelyn Alma Vivian (1925-2005)Community activist. Born at Neepawa on 8 April 1925 to Charlotte Maria White (1897-1969) and Arthur George Curtis (1897-1970), she lived her entire life in that community, where she developed a keen interest in its history. She was one of the founding members of the Beautiful Plains Museum, serving as President for many years. In recognition of her service, she received a Regional Volunteer Award from the Manitoba Heritage Federation (1998). Over the years she compiled a scrapbook on the life of Manitoba author, Margaret Laurence, which now resides in the library of McMaster University at Hamilton, Ontario. She also assisted in the filming of Margaret Laurence, First Lady of Manawaka (National Film Board, 1978), a tribute to the author. She worked for several years at the Harris Pharmacy and at Dr. Dunn’s chiropractic office, and was a member of St. James Anglican Church at Neepawa, where she taught Sunday School for many years. In 1947, she married Lewis Vivian (1916-2008), with whom she had one child. She died at Brandon on 7 April 2005 and was buried in the Riverside Cemetery at Neepawa.
