Memorable Manitobans: Gilbert P. Unger (1940-2020)

Educator, administrator.

Born in the Blumenhof district on 14 October 1940, he studied Education and Geography at the University of Manitoba. His teaching career began at Giroux School then he did two years of volunteer work in Burundi, Africa. He taught at Gods River then moved to Rainy River, Ontario where he farmed and taught at Rainy River High School. He also served as Vice-Principal of the school. In 1980, he moved to Blumenort and, in 1983, became Superintendent of the Hanover School Division, holding the position until retirement in 2002. He died at Blumenort on 15 November 2020.
