Memorable Manitobans: Arthur Robert Tanner (1912-1969)Physician, administrator. Born at Moosomin, Saskatchewan around 1912, he graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1937. He joined the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps in 1939 and retired from military reserves, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, in 1955. He practiced medicine at the Grace Hospital and taught obstetrics at the Manitoba Medical School. He was director of United Health Insurance, a subsidiary of the Manitoba Medical Service, from 1959 to 1964, when he was appointed director of medical insurance in the provincial health department. He was the first Chairman of the Manitoba Medical Services Insurance Corporation. He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital, following a lengthy illness, on 14 August 1969 and was buried in the St. John’s Cathedral Cemetery.
