Memorable Manitobans: Lot Swalwell (1874-1965)

Cleric.

Born in Bruce County, Ontario in 1874, he came to Manitoba and enrolled at St. John's College where he graduated with an Arts degree in 1905. He was ordained an Anglican deacon in 1905 and priest in 1906. He served at Snowflake Anglican Church (1905-1910), Holy Trinity Anglican Church at Headingley (1910-1917), St. Agnes Anglican Church at Carberry (1917-1923), St. Clement’s Anglican Church (1923-1930), and St. Mark’s Anglican Church at St. Vital (1930-1948). He was Rural Dean of Selkirk (1926-1930) and was appointed Honorary Canon of St. John's Cathedral in 1930. He and wife Helen Wright (?-?) had two children: George Fraser Swalwell and Agnes Swalwell (wife of John O. Anderson). He died at Winnipeg on 20 April 1965 and was buried in the St. John's Cathedral Cemetery.
