Memorable Manitobans: Joseph Alexander “Alex” Stephen (1899-1966)Cleric. Born at Kenora, Ontario in 1899, he received a Theology degree from United College in 1927 and became an ordained minister in the United Church of Canada. He served at Knox United Church at Kelwood (?-1930), Miniota United Church (1930-1936), Birtle United Church (1936-?), Pilot Mound United (?-?), Killarney United Church (?-?), and Carman United Church (1956-1966). In 1964, he received an honorary doctorate frorm United College. On 22 July 1940, he married Catherine Bray (1910-1988) at Lenore and they had a son, Paul Alexander Stephen (1946-2007).
