MLA (1999-2003), MLA (2003-2007), MLA (2007-2011), MLA (2011-2016), Premier of Manitoba (2009-2016), MLA (2016-2018).
He served as a Winnipeg city councillor (1989-1992) before being defeated by Susan Thompson in the 1992 Mayoral election. He then entered provincial politics and was elected in the 1999 general election. Re-elected in 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2016, he served as Premier of Manitoba (2009-2016). He was not a candidate in the 2019 election.
In recognition of his community service, he received a Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal (2002), Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), and Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022). He was inducted into the Order of Manitoba (2021).
