Lawyer, community activist.
Born at Winnipeg in 1934 to Kateryna Romanec (1896-1967) and Jan Miedzybrocki (1883-1973), he grew up in East Kildonan. He attended Lord Selkirk School in the nearby Elmwood area, and then began his post-secondary education at St. Paul's College. He went on to earn a Law degree from the University of Manitoba in 1957, and was called to the Manitoba Bar the following year.
He began work in private practice, then joined Canadian National Railways as Corporate Counsel. Upon retiring as Assistant Regional Counsel in 1992, he continued in private practice until his death. In 2009, he was honoured by the Law Society of Manitoba for 50 years of practicing law.
He was involved in many community organizations over the years, most prominently the Kiwanis Club of Winnipeg and The Polish Businessmen's Club. In these organizations, he held various positions, including President, and was active in many of their fundraising and community projects. He was well known for buying cases of Kiwanis Christmas cakes and distributing them amongst his family and friends. Also, he was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church.
Passionate about sports, he played hockey and lacrosse as a young man. Later in life he enjoyed curling and golf and was an active member of the Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. At the time of his death, he was helping to establish the Manitoba Lacrosse Hall of Fame. In later life, he travelled to France, Fiji, and Australia with friends. His last trip was to Poland and Ukraine with his nephews to visit family. He was exceptionally loyal to and proud of his heritage and dedicated to the importance of tradition. He had a son with his wife Mary Rose Sawchuk Brocki (?-2003).
He died at Winnipeg on 12 November 2010 and was buried in the Holy Ghost Cemetery.
