Memorable Manitobans: Anna Kennedy Hicks (1896-1982)Home economist. Born in Flint, Michigan, she came to Winnipeg in childhood and graduated from the Manitoba Agricultural College in 1920 as a home economist. She did graduate work at Columbia University and returned to Winnipeg to teach household arts at the Manitoba School for the Deaf and at Earl Grey School. In 1926 she married and moved to a farm near Souris, and she joined the Souris Women’s Institute in 1927. She was also active in the United Church and was appointed a member of the Rural Electrification Commission. For many years she was a director of the Souris and Glenwood Agricultural Society. A member of the Golden Age Club, she helped plan Victoria Park Lodge in Souris. She was inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame.
