Memorable Manitobans: Frederick William Hall (1885-1915)War hero. Born in Kilkenny, Ireland on 21 February 1885, he served with the Second Scottish Rifles before moving to Pine Street (now Valour Road), Winnipeg. In September 1914 he enlisted in the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He was killed at Ypres on 25 April 1915 while carrying a wounded soldier on his back, and was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery.
