Memorable Manitobans: Nellie Harriet George (1892-1986)


Born at Springfield on 13 February 1892, daughter of Harry George and Nellie Ellen Henderson, she taught school in the Winnipeg School Division, including at Luxton School (1916-1925), and serving as Principal of Florence Nightingale School (1925-1938) and Isbister School (1938-1945). After retirement, she worked as an art supervisor for the School Division and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She died at Chilliwack, British Columbia on 2 December 1986.
