Memorable Manitobans: Harry Fuller (1904-1976)

Railwayman, municipal official.

Born at Kent, England on 6 June 1904, one of ten children of Henry Fuller (1858-1941) and Elizabeth Ellen Fuller (1866-1941), he came to Canada with his family and resided at Transcona as of 1911. After attending South Transcona School, he worked for the Canadian National Railways for 50 years until retirement in 1965.

On 22 August 1929, he married Mary Hosfield (1903-1982) at Transcona and they had three children: Reginald Harry “Reg” Fuller (1932-1997), James Leonard “Jim” Fuller, and Elizabeth Alice “Betty” Fuller. He served on the Transcona municipal council (1955-1961), Mayor of Transcona (1961-1971), and President of the Greater Winnipeg Mayor and Reeves Association (1971). He was Honorary President of the Transcona Jaycees and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Transcona Branch). He was actively involved with Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels, and Transcona Museum Board.

He died at the Concordia Hospital on 30 April 1976 and was buried in the Transcona Cemetery.
