Curler, broadcaster.
Born at Winnipeg on 25 January 1935, son of Charles Edward Duguid (c1900-1965) and Mary Ann “Molly” Mitchell (c1907-1961), he got his start in curling at an early age at the CPR Rink where his father was the icemaker. He curled at the Granite Curling Club in the 1950s and skipped his rink to the club's junior championship in 1953-1954. He worked as a clerk at the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission.
His team participated in the Brier tournament four times (1957, 1965, 1970, 1971) and won three times (1965, 1970, 1971). He skipped a Canadian team to consecutive world titles in 1970 and 1971. He spent nearly 30 years as a curling analyist for CBC Television and was a curling commentator for NBC at the 2002, 2006, and 2010 Winter Olympics.
In recognition of his curling prowess, he was inducted into the Order of Manitoba (2014) and the Order of Canada (2020). He received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012). His curling teams in 1970 and 1971 were inducted into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame (1983) and he was inducted into the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame (1987, 1999, 2013, 2022). He was also inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame (1974) and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame (1991).
He and wife Georgina E. Tucker had four sons: Terry, Dale, Dean, and Randy, before divorcing around 1979.
He died at Winnipeg on 15 July 2026.
