Lawyer, judge.
Born at Carman on 10 July 1942, son of Levi Landon Clearwater (1910-2000) and Elsie May Smith (1909-1985), after graduating from high school as a Governor General gold medal winner, he moved to Winnipeg to attend the University of Manitoba. His love of sports, and especially football, was indulged by play with the Fort Garry Lions, St. James Rods, University of Manitoba Bisons, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He graduated with a law degree in 1967 and articled at the Winnipeg law firm known later as Thompson Dorfman Sweatman.
He commenced a legal career with Meighen Haddad at Brandon, later returning to Winnipeg and resuming affiliation with TDS Law but he also maintained a presence in southwestern Manitoba throughout his career. He was made a Queen's Counsel in 1990 and was appointed a Puisne Judge in the Court of Queen's Bench (1992-2007).
He was married twice, first on 14 May 1966 to Marilyn Lee North (daughter of Herbert William Clinton North) at Carman United Church. They subsequently had a son and two daughters. In the early 1980s, he married Marilyn Dorothy Pekrul (1945-2026, daughter of Otto and Eva Pekrul) and they had a daughter.
He died at Winnipeg on 29 August 2026.
