Memorable Manitobans: Frank Burridge Brisbin (1889-1962)

Civil servant.

Born at Winnipeg on 1 September 1889, eldest of four children of James Plews Brisbin (1859-1950) and Elizabeth Ann Brisbin (1868-1950), his childhood was spent at Brandon (1890-1910) where his father worked for an insurance company. He worked for the Manitoba government for 36 years, serving as Acting Comptroller-General of Manitoba (1936-1938) and retiring in 1955 as Assistant Deputy Provincial Treasurer.

On 4 January 1919, he married Vivienne Ketley Ellis (1897-1989) at Vancouver, British Columbia and they moved to Winnipeg and subsequently had three children: Robert Ellis “Bob” Brisbin (1919-2000), Mabel Vera Brisbin (1922-2014, wife of Roy Russell “Bud” Ramsay), and Edward James Burridge “Ted” Brisbin (1925-?). The family lived at 64 River Road in St. Vital.

He died at the Winnipeg General Hospital on 13 June 1962 and was buried in the St. Vital Cemetery.
