Memorable Manitobans: Leonard Baranyk (1944-2018)

Businessman.

Born on a farm at Seech on 9 June 1944, eldest child of Walter Baranyk (1917-1992) and Anne Marischuk (1923-2016), he attended Seech School and Strathclair School. After high school graduation, he attended the Success Commercial College in Winnipeg and received a degree in business administration. In 1964, he began working in the garment industry while taking further education in accounting at the University of Manitoba. He joined the firm of Pratts Wholesale Limited as an accountant, purchasing it in 1980 and rising to become Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. He expanded company operations to include all of western Canada. He died at Ahwatukee, Arizona on 18 February 2018.
