Historic Sites of Manitoba: Bow Park School No. 166 (Municipality of Emerson-Franklin)

Following a public petition in late December 1884, the Bow Park School District was established formally in January 1885 from lands formerly within the catchment of the Roseau School District No. 45 and Perry School District No. 75. A schoolhouse was built at the northwest corner of NW26-2-3 East of the Principal Meridian, in what is now the Municipality of Emerson-Franklin, on land donated by Mr. D. Harlow.

When the district began to operate its own classroom, there were 26 pupils of school age. However, by 1914 available enrolement had dwindled to only three, below the threshold needed for provincial grant status. Thus, arrangements were instead made for students to be driven to Dominion City School during 1915 and 1916. While no formal dissolution date is presently determined, Department of Education records suggest the district was broken up around 1917, with its catchment split up between Dominion City School, Greenridge School No. 1704, and Langside School No. 230, in what would later become Boundary School Division (later still the Border Land School Division).

Among the teachers of Bow Park School were Theophilus Grant “Theo” Finn (Spring 1885, Spring-Fall 1886), did not operate (Fall 1885), James E. Munro (Spring-Fall 1887), did not operate (Spring 1888 - Spring 1892), James O. Gamey (Fall 1892), Edgar Burgess (Spring - pt Fall 1893), A. E. Kerner (pt Fall 1893 - Spring 1894), D. O?
