Memorable Manitobans: Marie Evelyn Zorniak (1952-2018)

Educator, community activist.

Born on 17 October 1952, daughter of Nicholas and Minnie Shewchuk, she grew up in Winnipeg’s North End. After receiving a teaching degree from the University of Manitoba, then taught school for many years. She was one of the original organizers of the Red River Heritage Fair and volunteered with the Manitoba Social Studies Teacher Association and the Manitoba Living History Society. In 2015, she received a Distinguished Service Award from Heritage Winnipeg in recognition of her volunteerism with the Red River Heritage Fair. She died on 25 June 2018.
