Memorable Manitobans: Johan M. “John” Wiens (1922-2014)
Municipal official.
Born in the Russian village of Nova Prokrowska, Siberia on 19 May 1922, son of John J. Wiens and Helena Wiens, the family immigrated to Canada in July 1926 and resided at Morden. On 28 November 1943, he married Martha Born (1923-2006) and they subsequently had four children. He served as Mayor of Morden (1975-1977). He died at Morden on 6 January 2014 and was buried in the Southside Cemetery.
