Memorable Manitobans: Gordon Elliott Waddell (1911-1989)
Cleric, community activist.
Born in the Rural Municipality of Dufferin on 23 May 1911, son of John Robert Waddell and Ellen Young, he became a United Church minister in 1943 and served until retirement in 1973, including at Goodlands United Church (1945-1951), Newdale United Church (1963-1973) and Cadurcis United Church (1964-1973). While at Newdale, he also operated a community drop-in centre and lending library. He and wife Olive I. ? (1922-2017) had three children. He died at his home in Newdale on 31 October 1989 and was buried in the Sperling Cemetery.
