Memorable Manitobans: Catherine Elizabeth Thomas (1921-1982)Physician. Born in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan, she received her BA from the University of Saskatchewan in 1942 and her MD from the Manitoba Medical College in 1945. In 1948 she joined the Red Cross, and she was the first physician involved in beginning the Blood Transfusion Service in Manitoba. She joined the Manitoba Medical College as a faculty member in 1959 and was later associated with the departments of pathology and anatomy until her retirement in 1978.
