Memorable Manitobans: Kenneth Sutherland (1886-1981)

Sales manager.

Born at Brore, Scotland on 8 June 1886, son of John and Elspeth Sutherland, he came to Winnipeg where he was a sales manager for the brokerage firm of Allan, Killam, and McKay.

He was married twice, first on 1 May 1913 to Jennie Evelyn McBride (?-1916) at Winnipeg who gave birth to Jennie Evelyn Elspeth Sutherland (1916-1991, wife of Jon Larus Bardal) before her death. On 20 September 1922, he married Ellen Etta McBain (1890-1942) at Winnipeg and they had a son, Newell Sutherland. He was a member of the Masons (Seven Oaks Lodge No. 148), Khartum Shriners, Strathcona Curling Club (honorary life member), and Knox United Church for which he was an elder for 66 years.

He died at Vancouver, British Columbia on 28 July 1981 and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery. His honorary pallbearers were Claude Wilson, Dick Wilson, J. W. Hall, Ash Parkinson, Bryan Hextall, Jack Harris, Andy Brown, C. K. McInnes, and Jim Bradley.
