Merchant, postmistress, curator, historian, community activist.
Born at Birtle on 30 July 1934, middle of three children of Georgina Guild “Ina” Duke (1908-2007) and Russell Everett Doran (1906-1980), in 1941 her family moved to a ranch in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. They returned to Manitoba in 1944 and took over the family farm near Isabella.
She married Raymond Peter “Ray” Still (1933-1986) and they subsequently had four sons. The couple farmed at 23-15-26W and, starting in 1970, she operated the post office at Isabella until retirement in 1999. In 1981, she and her husband purchased the local general store and moved the post office into it. She was active in the Isabella Womens Institute.
Over the course of many years, she was devoted to preservation of local history. She participated in the preparation of three volumes of a history book for Isabella and the surrounding region. She documented local historic sites and buildings, she transcribed cemetery burials as a member of the Manitoba Genealogical Society, and she was largely responsible for developing and operating the Isabella Museum. She volunteered at the Manitoba Agricultural Museum. For her community service, she received a Lieutenant Governors Award for Historical Preservation and Promotion (2012).
She died at Birtle on 25 October 2026 and was buried in the Isabella Cemetery.
