Born in Nova Scotia in 1883, he came to Winnipeg and worked as a building contractor. He and wife Mabel Claire Taylor (1887-1938) had four children: Earle Gordon Simpson (1913-1973), Dorothy Evelyn Simpson (1916-1993), Arthur Taylor Simpson (1918-1998), and Norman Burton Simpson (1923-1969). He died at Winnipeg on 18 October 1958 and was buried beside his wife in the Elmwood Cemetery.
