Memorable Manitobans: Marjorie Irene Preston (1895-1986)

Bookseller.

Born at Winnipeg on 14 April 1895, daughter of Myrta Helen Hunter (1866-1959) and Nassau James Robertson Preston, for over 30 years she managed the book department of the Eatons Department Store and became an expert on rare and unusual books. A lifetime member of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, in 1960, after her retirement, she set up the Anglican Book Shop in the basement of Trinity Hall. She died unmarried at Winnipeg on 10 January 1986 and was buried with her parents in the Elmwood Cemetery.
