Memorable Manitobans: Joseph H. Prefontaine (1859-1937)

Farmer, MLA (1903-1907).

He and his wife Georginie Senecal (1864-?) came from Beloeil, Quebec and settled on a farm near St. Eustache where he raised horses and twelve children. He served as Reeve of the Rural Municipality of St. Francois Xavier from 1901 and 1903, and was elected to the Manitoba Legislature in the 1903 general election, being defeated in 1907. In later years he served on the council for the Rural Municipality of Cartier. He died at Lisieux, Saskatchewan on 18 December 1937.
