Pharmacist, community activist.
Born at Melita on 1 November 1933 to Lyda Marguerite Wilton (1908-1995) and Harry Leonard Morrow (1901-1973), he spent his childhood in Melita until he moved to Winnipeg to attend United College (now University of Winnipeg) and the University of Manitoba, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy in 1957. He then returned to Melita to work with his father in Morrow’s Pharmacy. He purchased the drugstore in 1959. In 1961, he married Agnes Beverly Fuller (1938-2022) of Carievale, Saskatchewan, and they went on to have four children.
He became involved in Melita community life, volunteering his time on many projects to improve the quality of life for its citizens. He served as Mayor of Melita (1971-1980) and Chair of the Melita Centennial Committee in 1984. He was active in the Melita Chamber of Commerce for many years, and in the Kinsmen and K40 clubs, and also served as a member of the Masonic Lodge in Melita. An avid curler, he skipped a number of rinks during high school, university, and well into mid-life. He competed in the British Consoles in the 1960s, and his rink won several bonspiels over the years. With his family he enjoyed summers at Clear Lake, even acquiring a second cottage to accommodate everyone. The couple also enjoyed travelling to places that included China, the former Yugoslavia, the Caribbean, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.
In 1999, he sold the drugstore and continued to enjoy going for morning coffee with friends every day at the Happy Chopstick or Melita Inn, and gardening. In 2003, he and his wife moved to Sanford to be closer to their children, and then in 2008 to Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence in Winnipeg, enabling them to access medical care and participate in their grandchildren’s sports and activities. He was appreciated for being a model of graciousness, integrity, and community service, not only for his family, but for many who knew him.
He died at Winnipeg on 18 October 2009 and was buried in the Melita Cemetery.
