Memorable Manitobans: James Irving “Jim” Moffatt (1919-1991)

Farmer, manager.

Born at Carroll on 30 December 1919, youngest child of James I. Moffatt and Ada Visalia Moffatt, he attended Carroll School then operated the familiy farm. He was a director of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair for many years before serving as its President (1957-1960). He was director of the Provincial Exhibition (1970-1971). From 1965 he managed the Brandon assembly yard of the Manitoba Hog Commission, and pioneered in barbequing boneless smoked loins. In 1947, he married Gladys Morrow of Margaret and they had three sons and two daughters. He died at his Brandon residence, 230 - 23rd Street, on 6 June 1991 and was buried in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens. He was inducted posthumously into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (1993).
