Memorable Manitobans: Wilbert Guy “Bert” Malcom (1895-1980)Born at Winnipeg on 24 September 1895, son of David Malcom and Maude Adeline Dixon (1877-1964), he served with the 100th and 78th Battalions during the First World War and received the Military Medal. He returned from military duty and joined the family business, Malcom Construction. He served as President of the Winnipeg Builders' Exchange (1951), Winnipeg Executives Association (1964), and Canadian Construction Association (1955). On 19 May 1923, he married Mary Greig (1894-1977) and they had four children: David “Bud” Malcom (1929-1999), Wilberta Mary “Berta” Malcom (?-2002), E. Jean Malcom (?-2008, wife of Jim Saul), and Allison M. Malcom (1928-2022, wife of Gildas Laurent Molgat). He was a member of the Khartum Shriners, Winnipeg Kiwanis Club (President), and Canukeena Club (President, 1940-1941). He died at the Deer Lodge Hospital on 11 September 1980 and was buried in the Garry Memorial Park. See also:
