Memorable Manitobans: Lindsay Mansur Hovey (1902-1977)

Engineer.

Born at Rock Island, Quebec in 1902, son of W. H. Hovey, he attended the Stanstead Wesleyan College and McGill University, graduating from the latter in 1925 with a BSc degree in electrical engineering. He moved to Winnipeg later that year and, from 1930 to 1953, worked as an electrical engineer with the Winnipeg Electric Company. When the firm was taken over by Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board in 1953, he became its Manager of Engineering and Operation, later System Planning. He retired from Manitoba Hydro in 1967. For his community service, he received a Centennial Medal from the Manitoba Historical Society (1970), a Merit Award from the Association of Professional Engineers of Manitoba (1974), and a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (1977). He died at Winnipeg on 31 December 1977.
