Memorable Manitobans: Lloyd Montgomery Hatch (1914-1989)Sheep and cattle breeder. Born south of Oak Lake in 1914, he ran a mixed farming operation there named Pleasant Dawn Farms, specializing in Suffolk sheep and polled Shorthorn cattle. In 1956 he was dubbed “Manitoba Ace Sheepman.” His animals received many awards on the show circuit over the years. He won the Premier Breed Award in 1971 at Regina and the “Builders of the Breed” award from the Shorthorn world organization. He was active in local government and in Ducks Unlimited.
