Artistic director.

Known as the father of opera in western Canada, he was the Artistic Director for Manitoba Opera from 1977 to 1998. He directed 36 productions for the company, mentored several noteworthy opera performers, and established opera companies at Vancouver, Edmonton, and Regina. In 1995, he was given an honorary doctorate by the University of Winnipeg. He died at Vancouver, British Columbia in December 2014.
